Meet Leslie

 

A third-generation Californian, Leslie is an author and award-winning journalist who resides in beachside Carpinteria, California. She covers travel, food, design, artists, winemakers, poets, and politicians, and enjoys penning first-person essays. A Lowell Thomas Award winner and Napa Wine Writing Symposium Fellow, she especially cherishes her Certificate of Applause she was awarded for playing a wine glass in Marcos Balter’s Pan at the Ojai Music Festival.

Leslie’s first solo trip, at age seven, was aboard the Santa Fe Chief departing from L.A.’s Union Station. Since then, she has traveled on assignment to the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, Central and South America, Canada, and Southeast Asia, as well as throughout the United States, including Hawaii (a favorite) and Alaska. Her musings have appeared in a wide variety of international, national, and regional publications, including Conde Nast Traveler, Alta: The Journal of Alta California, The Nob Hill Gazette, Sunset, San Francisco Chronicle, Next Avenue, AFAR, Alaska Beyond, The Montecito Journal, Food + Home, and many others. She was the editor of Santa Barbara Seasons magazine and early in her career worked as a research associate at Vanity Fair.

When not writing or scouring flea markets for hidden treasure, Leslie tries to improve her Spanish, attending language classes during travels to her favorite Latin American countries as well as in her own backyard. A community activist, she is currently launching a Latinx mural project in her hometown of Carpinteria.
